Human society is drastically changing with the change caused by technology and artificial intelligence (AI). In the next decade (AI) will influence almost every aspect of human actions and decisions. Unfortunately, education has and continues to remain static as human society is unable to comprehend in what aspect should education be provided and to what purpose. This is especially so in India. Since Progressive Education was established in 1997, we have tried to understand and adapt to this changing world and its needs and have further tried to upgrade and adapt to the changes required every year to do so. It is therefore necessary that education cannot be rigid and inflexible but has become so primarily because of textbook teaching, the examination system and the incompetence of the teaching fraternity. It is our continuous effort to find solutions to the shortcomings and anticipate the child future environment.

The difference of Progressive School Indore

Here we follow our concept of school education since 1997 which is “Do not teach the children what to learn but rather teach the child how to learn” This can be considered a derivative of what eminent anthropologist Late Margaret Mead had stated, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think”. Parents therefore need to be clear as to for what need is there to be educated. Primarily this is for financial survival and therefore they need to comprehend the earning environment which their child will face when their child finishes a school. This anticipated environment will be entirely influenced by the use of AI and the humans should have the skill to not only be able to utilize AI effectively in any kind of job environment but also have the skill to regulate and control it effectively and efficiently. This requires the appropriate form of training of the mind since childhood and currently is not being provided due to the above stated shortcomings in the educational system in our country. Very few institutions are available or are attempting, with some degree of success, the required system for the future of the child and that to for our massive population of the country. CISCE Affiliation
For the lack of anything better Progressive School is affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination CISCE. In practice affiliation is required for the school participating in the standardised format of board examination of Class X and XII. Besides this currently there is really no educational difference between the various Boards of education available in India. A vision of education was published via the National Education Policy 2020 which we had largely incorporated in our system since 1997. This vision is likely to remain so on paper since the system and human resources providing education presently and in the forcible future do not have skill to implement.

Currently Progressive School operates through an 11 Acre Elevated Campus on the east side of Indore and through 5 Acres of campus on the west side of the city. We are very involved with keeping the world green and providing the children healthy pollution free environment.

Can I find out if a particular school is better or worse than others for my child?

(c) How many children are there in a class? The younger age group should be around 25 and older around 30 so that all can have the opportunity to learn from a teacher and the teacher can look at and treat each child as an individual.
(d) Does the school genuinely have and offer a reasonable variety of academic subjects to choose from for the students at the secondary levels and vocational level? The more the variety, the better the choice of school but then this type of desirable school will also cost more.
(e) If possible, informally and socially interact with other children of your child’s age group in that school living in your neighborhood, your colony or of friends and relatives. If none, then ask the school to give contact numbers of some such children in your area of residence or in your community. What your interaction with these children should bring out is the answers to the inquiries given earlier, or to any other of your interest and concern.

How can I know that my child will develop on the right lines and will receive education related to life skills from the child's school?

After admission, observe the following indicators to verify if your choice of school has been correct. If not, change before the child’s life is damaged.
(a) Is your child happy, enthusiastic and willing to go to school and eager and keen to discuss the school day on return? If not, then it could be due to lack of sleep or due to health reasons or due to insecurity with environment or relationship conditions at home or at school. You must talk and communicate with you child and make an effort to find out any mental or emotional problem. If unsuccessful, then use the professional help of a child psychologist and then try out the proposed solution.
(b) Has your child retained or generated a sense of curiosity and frequently asks questions and seeks answers at home or from others? This should be specially noted in the younger age child. If the child has little or no interest in how the world around it works then you need to worry about the child’s education.
(c) Does your child of the older age interact with you and discuss with you about life, events, issues etc. and has reasoned out its own opinion about them? If the child is not being made to think for itself and have opinions, then you need to worry about the child’s education.
These observations require sufficient personal interaction time to be given by the parents to the child in a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere and environment. Most important the parent must be genuinely interested in what the child wants to talk or convey to them.

Is not a school having more subjects and textbooks giving better education?

Again, this will depend on your perception of what education should be. More of academic and related activities made compulsory overloads and stresses out the child especially the younger ones and causes permanent mind and health problems due to mental unhappiness over a long period.
In my view there is to much information and knowledge increasingly available to all age groups which can be effectively handled by a child. So during school years the child must mainly get the tools and be given the life long skills necessary to acquire, comprehend and interpret information and knowledge orally and in writing.
A high level of proficiency in these skills is good education and the number of compulsory subjects with textbooks becomes irrelevant. Textbook

Many Schools and coaching classes give wide publicity to the Board and competitive examination results they have obtained. For choosing a school or a coaching institute for my child should these results be a guide?

School like to publicise themselves to gain more admissions. During the same self-publicity they also make many promises and give many accurances.There is increasing competition in the field of school education and so increasing self- publicity.

Coaching classes is huge money earning without much responsibility and no accountability to either parent or student. They are also in cutthroat competition in this unregulated activity of coaching.Therefore lakhs and crores are spent on self-publicity of alleged achievements in various competitive examinations.

However, in both cases of results published by schools and coaching classes,the key to your believing it is hidden behind the curtain.You need to find out the proportion between the results and the total number of students from which these results have emerged.That proportion will give you the true picture.You may have noted that this true picture is never indicated in their publicity.
If a school has 150 students for an external Board examination and only 10 students have been publicized as achieving an average above 90% and in another school there are 8 students above 90% from 40 students, then a true comparison of performance of that school emerges.
Similar is the case of coaching classes. They may prominently highlight 15 students with photographs in newspapers who qualified but the number of students who have appeared along with with these 15 from the same coaching class may be 200-300 or more. No one mention them!
So to select the school or a coaching class for your child, ask to see the true picture. If they avoid showing it to you, avoid that place. If they do, then you can make the appropriate choice.
